I started writing software professionally in 2008 and never really stopped shipping. This page is the longer version of how I got here.
The short career story
My first six years were at Ekol Gayrimenkul Değerleme, a real-estate valuation firm in Istanbul, where I built the company's core work-management platform - job assignment and tracking, staff performance measurement, commission calculation - as both a Windows desktop client and a web application over a shared backend. Six years on one product and its data model taught me more about maintainable software than any greenfield project could have.
From 2014 to 2017 I was a senior developer at Haliç University, where I built the payment infrastructure underpinning the university's systems - the start of a payments thread that runs through my whole career - along with exam, classroom and course-scheduling systems that turned timetabling into a data problem. Stints at OBASE (payment integrations, and my first exposure to blockchain) and CNR Holding (a data layer over years of trade-fair history) followed.
In 2013 I co-founded Modern Yazılım with my partner İbrahim Kılıç. I ran it alongside a full-time job until 2019, and it has been my main work since. In 2025 the two of us set up Modern Works Global Ltd in the UK to work with clients abroad. Right now I work across 14 active repositories, about 4,300 commits in total. I don't ship anything by hand - every release goes out through CI/CD, gets a semver number, and comes with release notes a user can actually read.
How I work
- I own products end-to-end - requirements analysis, architecture, implementation, deployment and operation - rather than handing work over at the code boundary.
- I'm usually the sole or lead engineer on an engagement, including two systems inherited from previous teams; one of them I have maintained single-handedly for 2.5 years.
- No manual deployments, anywhere. Branch-to-environment mapping and pipelines (Azure Pipelines, GitHub Actions) are the only way code reaches production.
- I run a small distributed team on Azure DevOps under a CMMI process template, and deliver formal technical specifications to clients through revision cycles.
- Modernisation over rewrites: .NET Framework / MVC 5 → .NET 5 + Vue → .NET 8/9 + Blazor → NestJS / Next.js / Expo - applied to live client systems, not slide decks.
